8 Teams, 1 Club!

From   a   team   formed   in   2003   as   a   group   of   work   friends   looking   for   an   organised   kick-a-bout, AFC   Stockport have come a long way. The   team   has   grown   from   those   work   colleagues   playing   weekly   matches   on   dusty   astro-turf,   to   a   well-run eight-team club that supports men’s, women’s and junior forms of the beautiful game. Having   enjoyed   decent   results   in   friendlies   and   friendly   tournaments   when   first   established,   the   team decided   to   join   a   competitive   league   and   became   a   member   of   the   Stockport   and   District   Sunday   Football League(SDSFL) in 2008. Market   Place   Europe   Ltd.   came   on   board   as   a   sponsor   in   that   same   year   and   are   still   the   clubs   sponsor today. It   was   important   to   everyone   involved,   that   team   supported   each   other   and   it   was   more   like   a   family.   And the family soon expanded. The   positivity   surrounding   the   team   brought   more   players   to   the   club,   which   saw   additions   to   the   men’s team   :   -      Sunday   Reserve   Team   2010   -   Sunday   3rd   Team   2013   -   Saturday   Team   2015   -   Sunday   4th   Team   in 2017   and   a   Saturday   Reserve   Team   in   2018.…our   3rds   changing   their   name   to   Rangers   and   our   4ths changing their names to Legion for the start of the 2018/19 campaign. With   the   men’s   team   performing   well   a   few   of   the   female   supporters   back   in   2006   decided   it   would   be   only right   to   create   a   team   of   their   own.   Similar   to   the   men’s   team   back   in   the   early   days,   the   Ladies   played   just friendly   games   before   moving   in   to   the   Cheshire   &   Manchester   league   back   in   2010.   The   league   changed it’s   name   to   the   Cheshire   Women’s   &   Youth   League   shortly   after.   Sadly   the   team   came   to   an   end   in   the summer   of   June   2019   after   they   were   blocked   by   an   FA   decision   to   move   leagues,   despite   this   being   an option   in   men’s   football.   The   decision   which   was   not   appreciated   by   many   on   social   media.   With   AFC Stockport   Ladies   folding   due   to   the   FA’s   decision,   the   club   then   supported   the   players   who   left   and   created a   new   team   called   Stockport   Lionesses. AFC   now   support   this   club   with   social   media   cover   and   a   place   on our   website.   The   club   state   there   should   be   no   boundaries   between   men   and   women’s   football   and   all should be treated equal. With   established   adult   teams   at   the   club,   the   next   challenge   came   in   June   2019   when   AFC   Stockport ventured   in   to   Junior   football,   with   the   introduction   of   an   Under   10’s   team….and   what   an   introduction   it was. The Under 10’s winning their first ever tournament on the day the team was launched.
